Why Are Diabetes Drugs So Dangerous?
In the last 20 years all of the best-selling diabetes drugs have had one thing in common: their side effects have been deadly and far too widespread. First there was Avandia, recognized to have caused more than 80,000 heart attacks and probably an even greater number of strokes. Then came Actos, benefitting from the withdrawal of Avandia from the market, Actos is now recognized to increase the risk of bladder cancer. No one’s medication should make them worse. Sure, there are side effects, but Actos bladder cancer is just about as bad as it gets. It looks like the consequences become less as the profits become greater. But is that right when millions of Americans have been exposed to cancer? In the past it was, up intil cancer lawsuits were filed over industrial products like asbestos. It shouldn’t take that long with Actos.
